Understand fibres, yarns and fabric structures. Connect material evidence with practical product-development decisions.
Programme overview
What you will work towards
This is a preview of the developing syllabus. These learning outcomes describe the intended course, not an already awarded competence.
- Interpret fibre identity, form, moisture and blend evidence without confusing classification with verified product performance.
- Calculate and audit yarn linear density, count conversions, twist, tenacity and resultant-density models.
- Analyse woven and knitted construction using defined directions, reference states and counting conventions.
- Reconcile fabric GSM, yarn-path models, corresponding mass and area, usable width and material-consumption estimates.
- Evaluate finishing and mechanical-performance evidence through appropriate methods, explicit assumptions and independent product requirements.
- Interpret colour differences, viewing-condition effects, colourfastness and material-group compatibility without averaging away failed criteria.
- Develop complete test requests, preserve sample and method traceability, calculate variation and apply explicitly authorised conformity rules.
- Investigate a fabric failure using traceable data, component models, controlled comparisons, independent confirmation and a defensible technical portfolio.
Enrolment and certification are not open for this programme. Teaching drafts, technical references, media and assessments are still subject to review.

Curriculum preview
10 planned modules, organised as a progressive learning sequence.
01Fibre classification and performanceFoundation · Draft syllabus
Six detailed teaching drafts cover fibre classification, filament and yarn fineness, moisture regain versus moisture content, requirement-led material selection, blend mass calculations and an evidence-based sourcing workshop. Includes lesson-specific exercises, introduction scripts and twelve draft assessment questions.
02Yarn engineering and yarn countFoundation · Draft syllabus
Six detailed NOSK teaching drafts on yarn linear density, tex/Ne conversions, resultant density, twist, breaking force and tenacity, concluding with a sourcing-evidence workshop. Includes original calculations, practical exercises, target-15-second narration scripts and 12 draft assessment questions. Technical and assessment review and video production are pending.
03Woven fabric structuresFoundation · Draft syllabus
Six detailed teaching drafts cover warp/weft identification, weave grids, ends/picks and unit conversions, yarn crimp, spatial construction variation and a woven-fabric mass-balance workshop. Includes worked examples, practical tasks, six introduction scripts and ten draft assessment questions.
04Knitted fabric structuresIntermediate · Draft syllabus
Six detailed teaching drafts cover knit architecture and loop density, jersey/rib/interlock comparison, loop-length mass modelling, mapped knit defects, extension and recovery, and an integrated candidate-qualification workshop. Includes practical work, six narration scripts and ten draft assessment questions.
05Fabric weight and cover factorIntermediate · Draft syllabus
Six detailed teaching drafts cover specimen GSM, mass per running metre and net roll mass, combined mass/area changes, projected cover, marker-area consumption and a supplier-evidence audit. Includes original checked calculations, six narration scripts and ten draft assessment questions.
06Textile finishing fundamentalsIntermediate · Draft syllabus
Six lesson-specific textile-finishing drafts covering process-purpose mapping, mechanical effects, wet pickup and theoretical dry add-on, controlled comparisons, durability and independent product requirements, and an integrated finishing-review workshop. Includes worked numerical examples, practical activities, target-15-second narration scripts and ten draft assessment questions.
07Mechanical fabric performanceIntermediate · Draft syllabus
Six detailed NOSK draft lessons on selecting mechanical tests, tensile force and elongation, tear propagation, pneumatic bursting, abrasion endpoints and a multi-criterion fabric-screening workshop. Includes original worked calculations, practical exercises, factory cases, six target-15-second narration scripts and twelve draft assessment questions.
08Colour and dye behaviourAdvanced · Draft syllabus
Six complete first teaching drafts cover CIELAB coordinates and colour difference, metamerism, dye/pigment mechanisms and fixation denominators, colour change versus staining and rubbing transfer, roll-shade pairing, and a complete colour-evidence workshop. Includes original calculations, practical tasks, six target-15-second introduction scripts and twelve draft assessment questions.
09Textile testing and standardsAdvanced · Draft syllabus
Six complete first teaching drafts cover test-request design, laboratory scope, specimen traceability and conditioning, sample variability and reference differences, uncertainty decision rules, paired laboratory reconciliation and report auditing. Includes worked calculations, practical exercises, six narration scripts and twelve draft assessment questions.
10Fabric failure analysisAdvanced · Draft syllabus
Six connected capstone drafts investigate a fictional2,400-trouser order: problem scope and evidence, dimensional/component calculations, a blocked two-factor trial, independent product-criterion decisions, controlled confirmation and a final engineering portfolio. Includes six narration scripts, practical tasks, a proposed100-point rubric and twelve draft assessment questions.
Learning experience
Study. Practise. Explain.
The new programme format combines lesson summaries, learning objectives, technical explanations, worked examples, practical activities and factory case studies. A 15-second introduction is planned for each new lesson. A written script is not a finished video; the player appears only when an approved video is available.
Assessment & credentials
Evidence of your learning
Questions and practical rubrics are in development. No programme certificate is offered from this preview. Assessment approval and the learner-to-certificate workflow must be validated before launch.
NOSK issues its own learning credentials. They are not Harvard qualifications and are not presented as externally accredited.
