Technical controls & troubleshooting

Construction Engineering

  • Select shell, membrane, insulation, lining, thread, tape, and trim as one compatible system
  • Engineer baffle geometry to control fill migration and thermal cold spots
  • Match seam class and stitch type to waterproofing, strength, bulk, and mobility needs
  • Allow for turn-of-cloth, insulation loft, seam tape width, and layer compression in patterns
  • Reinforce zipper ends, pockets, drawcord exits, hood pivots, and high-load attachment points
  • Validate bonded and seam-sealed assemblies after laundering, flexing, and low-temperature exposure

Performance Specifications

  • Hydrostatic resistance: ISO 811 or buyer method
  • Water-vapour resistance: ISO 11092 or approved MVTR method
  • Spray rating: ISO 4920 / AATCC 22 for water repellency
  • Thermal resistance measured as clo or m²·K/W for insulated products
  • Seam strength and slippage verified to ISO 13935 / ISO 13936
  • Down fill power, composition, cleanliness, and leakage assessed to buyer protocol

Quality Controls

  • Verify outerwear at incoming, first-output, inline, end-line, and final stages
  • Separate critical, major, and minor defects using the approved defect library
  • Use risk-based sampling; increase frequency after a failure or process change
  • Maintain shade, size, lot, roll, and bundle traceability throughout production
  • Quarantine nonconforming output until disposition and corrective action are approved
  • Confirm corrective action effectiveness on consecutive production checks

Troubleshooting

  • Contain affected jacket output and identify the last verified-good checkpoint
  • Use 5 Why and fishbone analysis across material, machine, method, people, and environment
  • Compare failed output with the sealed sample, specification, and machine settings
  • Correct the root cause rather than relying on repeated inspection or repair
  • Run a controlled trial, validate results, then release the updated process setting
  • Update SOP, control plan, training record, and preventive-maintenance requirement
