Technical controls & troubleshooting

Product Engineering

  • Translate end use into material, fit, construction, performance, care, and safety requirements
  • Create category-specific blocks and grade rules rather than scaling one universal pattern
  • Define CTQs by product: neck recovery, crotch strength, cup support, waterproofing, or attachment safety
  • Validate component compatibility through laundering, wear simulation, and storage testing
  • Apply market-specific labelling, flammability, drawcord, and small-parts rules
  • Build test protocols around foreseeable use, misuse, user group, and service life

Specification System

  • Maintain product description, bill of materials, measurement chart, construction sheet, and artwork
  • Define tolerances by measurement criticality, fabric behaviour, and size range
  • Specify stitch/seam classes, SPI, thread, needle, reinforcement, and seam allowance
  • State performance methods and limits rather than subjective terms such as good or strong
  • Include packaging, assortment, barcode, carton, and presentation requirements
  • Control revisions and confirm factory acknowledgement before implementation

Category Controls

  • Verify product category at incoming, first-output, inline, end-line, and final stages
  • Separate critical, major, and minor defects using the approved defect library
  • Use risk-based sampling; increase frequency after a failure or process change
  • Maintain shade, size, lot, roll, and bundle traceability throughout production
  • Quarantine nonconforming output until disposition and corrective action are approved
  • Confirm corrective action effectiveness on consecutive production checks

Troubleshooting

  • Contain affected product output and identify the last verified-good checkpoint
  • Use 5 Why and fishbone analysis across material, machine, method, people, and environment
  • Compare failed output with the sealed sample, specification, and machine settings
  • Correct the root cause rather than relying on repeated inspection or repair
  • Run a controlled trial, validate results, then release the updated process setting
  • Update SOP, control plan, training record, and preventive-maintenance requirement
